Can’t think, brain dumb

I got my prescriptions filled tonight, so I am hopeful that my stupidness from medication withdrawal will go away soon. Seriously, it’s not good when you’re sitting in the doctor’s waiting room reading a poster on the wall about signs of Alzheimer’s disease and realizing that you currently have most of them. If my attention span improves soon, then I’ll be able to post more, as well as read other people’s blogs and respond to their posts. You would not believe how many times lately I have read other people’s posts, clicked on “Post comment,” and then completely forgot what I was doing and never got around to actually posting a comment.

Your last post…the Darth Vader one was great…you’re doing okay. Hang in there.

  2. Jon Says:

The thought of alzheimers terrifies me, and lately feel I’m sliding closer all the time. But like Gianna said, hang in there. With emotional stability I hope comes intellectual stability.

  3. Barb Says:

But doesn’t Alzheimer’s affect people in the later stages of life? I’m not being mean here, but maybe you’re being a wee bit paranoid?

  4. Gianna Says:

Psych drugs do indeed effect cognition. No paranoia on my part. Anti-psychotics and benzos dulled my intellect considerably. But I had a decent brain to begin with so I do okay. That doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating and I think we’re all talking about that. Just not feeling as sharp.

And in some cases Alzheimers starts quite early, but it’s unusual.

I wasn’t being paranoid, I was just joking. Well, I wasn’t exactly joking — I did look at that Alzheimer’s poster in the waiting room, and I did realize that I currently had most of the symptoms. But I knew it was just due to the effects of medication withdrawal, and not caused by anything else. After a few days back on my meds, I am finally doing better in the thinking-straight department.

ECT sucks because it makes me forgetful. Luckily, having it only every 4 weeks isn’t as bad as when I had 15 sessions in a closer time span last year. I think people who don’t know just think I’m…an airhead? I’ll tell you what though, meds may affect cognition, but ECT definitely does. But I don’t have much of a choice.
